Its A New Day! – Will.I.Am

I got a call from my good friend director Ben Mor from Smuggler last Sunday wondering what my schedule was like. He was seeking some help with a video he was shooting in Chicago with Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas celebrating Barack Obamas potential victory in the presidential race. On Monday I asked my EP Marie Schroder her thoughts. She put me on a plane on Tuesday night and we were off.

I landed in Chicago on Tuesday and met with Ben and his crew. Will met up with us later at The Hyatt for Dinner. HE was a super cool cat and we watched the initial election results and played with his new camera. Ben just taught him how to use the Macro function. Will kept saying “Macro Macro”..It was hilarious!! After dinner they took off to Grant Park and I went over to the studio. I started locking sync all of the performance stuff they had shot in Los Angeles previously to making there way to Chicago.

Barack wins!!. I watched to the victory speech with Matt my assigned assitant from the Library at the Whitehouse Post (the Studio I was 4 walling in) . I had never felt so proud to be an American as I was that very moment..

Ben showed up with Will at about 1 am and we came up with a game plan for the video.
We loaded everything they shot that night and David the DP started searching for images of the victory from all over the world.. After 12 hours of edit and craziness we ended up with a great piece that was featured on Oprah, Larry King Live and MTV.

Kid Rock Featuring Sheryl Crow “Picture”

This is the first “real” music video i really got to sink my teeth into. It was one of many projects i worked with on my good friend and director Jb Carlin. It was huge success and held the charts on the VH1 top ten for 2 months straight. It still remains one of my favorite videos i have ever cut.

I was invited on the shoot which was pretty amazing. My favorite memory from the shoot was when we were talking a break between takes. Sheryl and Kid busted into a cover of Sweet Home Alabama and only the Assistant Director and i really saw the whole song. I clapped after it was done. Sheryl turned around jokingly and told me shut up with a smile..!
